We have some land where we have a well. A pressure tank system is being installed for the well (low volume) in a pump house (shed) along with the electrical service. The shed is not going to be a big space, 10'x12', insulated slab, insulated walls / door, so I think radiant floor heat should be plenty. I am looking for ideas on a combined instant hot water / floor heat system. The system would have to be run on electric or propane, no natural gas. Temperatures can get down to -30' Fahrenheit (a... Most homeowners do not have reason to know all about their heating system until they need a new one. The market is quite vast and some research is required. I'm hoping to get some help with my heat system. Our electric bills are 250% higher than anyone in our area with similar square footage (2500sqft). A few years ago we had the fan that controls the boiler/radiant heat replaced under warranty and after they left I realized they did not connect 2nd floor zone valve. The company did not have any interest in fixing it. A lot of other companies said they had no experience with this system and that did not make sense to me until I start... Radiant floor heating diagram. Got my bus stripped down bare, about to spray foam and I've been thinking about how to go about the floor. Would like to do radiant heat, and I'm curious about how efficient it would be to try and use the wood stove as my heater for the radiant floor system. Maybe coiling copper pipe around the chimney pipe for the heat exchanger, add an inline pump, and pex through the subfloor like you'd normally do it. Anyone done anything similar? Worried that the heat exchange on the copper pipe from the fu... We just installed radiant floor heating about 2 months ago. It’s had no issues. They told us to keep the pressure at 10-15 psi, and we never saw a dip. We had some both plumbing and electrical work away from this, so water and electrical was shut off to the house. Now that it’s back on, we’ve lost pressure and it’s not heating the floor. Nothing has changed other than the fact everything was turned off. I can’t figure out how to add pressure or troubleshooting tips. Any thoughts? It’s a clos... I have a propane Lochnivar boiler and I’m looking to upgrade it from a propane boiler to an electric heat pump since fuel prices are going crazy. I have searched and not found any options on this. Can someone point me in the direction I need to look? I cannot find any readily available options for this application so I may need to cobble something together. My floors are freezing. Should I insulate my crawl space floors and walls and then heat the crawl space in order to warm my ground-floor floors? If I just increase the room temperature above, that would somewhat increase the temperature of the floors, but I expect they would still be freezing. I could get in-floor radiant heating - hydronic ($$$$) or electric (cheaper to install, more expensive to operate) - by (a) removing existing floors and installing new floors ($$$$) over the \[pipes...
Radiant floor heating is installed in the floor because heat rises. Heat doesn't rise; radiant energy travels in all directions. You could install this system ... Radiant floor heating isn’t just a luxury that your tootsies can appreciate on a cold day. We are planning on concrete-encasted radiant floor heating (glycol) for our future home and are wondering if it’s possible to incorporate floor-embedded electrical outlets (where there is no wall nearby for example). Is that fairly easy to do or will the electrician laugh at us?
Standard Wiring Diagrams for I-Link Controllers ... Wiring the Heat Exchanger/Primary Loop System. My house installed radiant floor heating but when we turned it on, we can feel cold air in the room, but don’t know from where. All our windows are closed, and it is warmer in the room, but I can feel cold air passing my face when I sleep. Anyone has a potential solution? So I just laid tile in my bathroom, but after the process was finished, the tile popped. This is the most crucial tile due to the fact it’s going to be the one that’s stepped on the most. Underneath is radiant floor heating, so scraping wouldn’t be a possibility as far as I know. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hey guys, here's the background... We are putting things together for a new home build...this will be an ICF home, and the whole thing is basically being done ourselves except for those items that require certified installation in our state (we are in KY...plumbing is one such item). My plan had been to install radiant heating in our concrete slab for the home, but I just found out today that this qualifies as a full HVAC system and requires certified installation and permits, etc. Not a huge ...
Hello! I live in a farmhouse built in 1900 (could be older for all I know). The only heat we have on the second level comes from a forced air unit (propane), with one duct in the hallway. That one duct provides zero heat to the three bedrooms and one bathroom up there. I think that the electric mats will be so much better in each room, but my MIL thinks we should just add more ductwork. The largest room is 120sqft. I'm pretty sure our forced air unit isn't even big enough for our house as it is....
Just moved into my first home last week. It's a 13 year old two story log cabin in the Catskills, around 1200 square feet with a loft. It has radiant floor heat powered by a Rinnai RUC98 (a tankless propane water heater) that services three zones - the slab in the basement and two zones on the first floor (one with wood flooring the other with tiles). During the first few days staying in the home I noticed the water heater's "in use" light turn off and the temperature started dropping. The wate...
Has anyone tried switching their entire house to radiant floor heating? I had some friends up in Massachusetts with a new construction that ended up doing it for their home and theyre always raving about how much better it is than baseboard. I wonder how feasible it would be on the island with our electricity prices? Also I have concrete slab foundation so wondering if retrofitting it on top would even be possible or close to as efficient. Also of course, would love some radiant heat in...
I have a radiant infloor hear in my basement in Northern Ontario, Canada. It runs a glycol water mix powered by a Navian combi heater. Thermostat is a touchscreen Uponor model that monitors my AIR temp and SLAB temp. It's labeled as AIR and FLOOR on the thermostat itself. Using my slab sensors, it allows me to set a slab temperature different then my air temperature. Being in the basement I don't get a lot of natural light or daytime heating down here. What should be the differential betwee...

Anyone have experience contracting for radiant floor heating? I have a dying furnace and shredded ducts, and am wondering if floor coils would add home value and be more economical with solar electricity. Before being called crazy, the most difficult and expertise requiring part of this project is done. The previous owner was a radiant flooring engineer and managed to finish two zones but roughed in several more that he didn't quite get to. I've attached a picture of the manifold. The area I want to attempt first is the master bed. The copper piping for that zone is laid in the crawl, but terminates before the room. He previous zones look like he put batting underneath the joists but I can't see...

I have a basement I finished about 6 years ago. Most of the finished area has floating laminate flooring over the concrete slab, though there are a few tiled sections as well. The laminate was extremely cheap and hasn't held up well. I'm thinking about replacing it sometime in the next year with something nicer. Which got me thinking about adding some radiant heat to the floor (I'm in the PNW US so not terribly cold in the winter but still chilly and damp). It's not something I know a ton about ...
